Why All The Fuss?

What was all the fuss about?

It's been a good two weeks and now I'm beginning to wonder why I drug my feet so hard to accept this treatment.  I do have some side effects but nothing bad enough to keep me from having fun and enjoying life as it should be.  I was able to sail in 20+ wind on my new gear, enjoy watching my Granddaughter compete, chase a bird out of the house dying in laughter with Greg be an hour in the gym twice a week, ride my bike or walk the Beach everyday and enjoy our guests at Banana River Resort.  Life is pretty normal.   What was all the fuss about?

Today is the day of big doses. I get all three.  Avastin, Doxil and Carboplatin.  This is my 3rd out of 6 cycles.  But....first they are giving me a good shot of steroids and anti nausea med just in case.  The steroids make me wordy and I'm waiting for that to happen.......................

Ok. It happened.....here we go!!!

Just a small prayer comes to my mind and I'd like to share. I'm sure you have heard it before but it's so good:

Oh God, please allow me to accept the things I can not change, the courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference.

As I age, I realize aging takes a tremendous amount of strength and a whole lot of wisdom.  Aging is not easy nor is fighting illness but combined it is twice as tough.  Repeating this prayer helps me to focus on what I CAN do and not to make a fuss but to get on with what needs to be done according to the plan with the help of God's grace.

I saw the nurse practitioner before infusion today to be sure my blood work was good.  It was good.
My cancer marker (C-125) indicates I'm in the normal range and went down from the last time. 0-35 is normal. My count was 35.  Let's hope the numbers continue to fall.  All good news that this is worth it and not really worth all the fuss.  My joints ache and my skin is dry and my mouth is sensitive. Nothing that can't be remedied with a little attention. I feel lucky knowing that it could be a lot worse.

I did a little family trip between treatments with one set of grandkids to watch my granddaughter compete in level 7 gymnastics at a State competition.  I'm so glad I was able to watch her preform at her top level.  She is awesome and won her division and now headed next week to a regional competition in Mobile, Alabama. They are all growing up so fast.  I wonder how they can grownup and I don't. I know I'm old too but it's just weird to watch them grow from SO tiny to SO big in what seemed like no time at all.

I think more family has become more urgent because of my treatment.  The tendency is to be about your life loving your family but not connecting near enough.  This round has made me realize how precious little time I have to hug them and all I really want to do is hug them all up!  That includes my friends too!  I just seem to be craving hugs lately.

It's Spring break and it has been fun at the Resort. New paint here and there, cool guests, nice wind, and the arrival of my new windsurfing kit.  I was able to spread my passion around with some lessons as well as some time on the water with my new windsurfing gear. Fanatic boards and North Sails and ION set me up with team rider prices and I took advantage and treated myself to this fabulous combo in the photo above.  Thank you boys!  I'm gonna make you proud.

So I ask again.....What was all the fuss about?  I'm fine!!!!!!!

Next time is Avastin 3.5 of 6 cycles April 26.  Till then.......God Bless you all! Love you all!

  2. I once had an elderly man in my neighborhood, somewhere in his eighties, that walked up in my yard and handed me a card.It had his name on one side and the other simply said," Live for as long as you're alive ". Beth ,I'm certain that you will continue to fight and make the most of everything life gives you. Proud to be your friend.
